When to Start Mosquito and Tick Spraying in Southern New Hampshire

Get the timing right for your first spray of the season. A simple guide to when biting pests wake up in Rockingham, Hillsborough, and surrounding counties and when to schedule your first treatment.

If you have ever wondered why your Exeter or Bedford yard is already buzzing before Memorial Day, you are not alone. In Southern New Hampshire, the right time to start spraying is earlier than many folks think.

Our team at Mosquito Pros NH has been serving Rockingham, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Strafford, and Belknap counties since 2010. The single question we hear most in spring is: when should I schedule my first treatment? Here is a straightforward guide so you can plan ahead and get the most out of your season.

Why Timing Matters in New Hampshire

Biting pests become active as soon as the ground thaws and daytime temperatures stay above about 50 degrees. In Nashua, Manchester, and the Seacoast, that often happens in April. If you wait until the first cookout to call, you are already playing catch up. Starting your spray schedule when activity begins means fewer biters from day one and better protection all summer.

When Do Mosquitoes and Ticks Show Up Where You Live?

Southern and Seacoast Areas

In towns like Portsmouth, Exeter, Stratham, and Salem, snow is usually gone and the ground is warming by mid to late April. Mosquitoes and ticks can become active as early as then. Many of our customers in these areas book their first visit for late April or early May.

Inland and Lakes Region

Farther north and west, in places like Laconia, Gilford, and Meredith, the season starts a bit later. Plan on your first treatment from early to mid May. If you are in the Lakes Region, we have an office in Gilford and cover the area regularly.

What Actually Triggers Activity

It is not just the calendar. A warm, wet spring can push activity earlier. A cold, dry April can delay it. We keep an eye on conditions and can help you pick a first date that fits your town and your schedule.

What Happens If You Start Too Late?

Starting after mosquitoes and ticks are already out means your yard has had time to become a spot they use. You will need that first treatment to knock down what is there, and then follow up on a regular schedule. Starting on time means your first spray is building protection before the population booms. That usually means a calmer yard with less catching up to do.

How Often Should You Spray After That?

Most of our programs use a visit every few weeks through the season. The exact number of visits depends on your program and the size of your property. We measure your yard and tailor the schedule so coverage stays strong from spring through the end of summer. You can see the options that fit your property and budget on our main mosquito control and tick control pages.

Simple Steps to Get Started

  • Call or request a quote in March or early April so we can get you on the schedule before the rush.
  • Tell us your town or zip so we can confirm we serve your area (we cover seven counties and dozens of towns).
  • Choose a first visit date in late April or May, depending on where you live, and we will keep you on a set schedule for the rest of the season.
